IOM Launches a Data Portal for the Americas to Boost the Implementation of Los Angeles Declaration
Panama City, Panama, July 16, 2024 - In a significant milestone for regional cooperation on migration, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) today unveiled the first features of a multi-phased Portal that provides comprehensive and targeted views of human mobility across the Americas region. The initiative bolsters regional efforts to implement the Los Angeles Declaration (LAD) on Migration and Protection.
Key Highlights of the Los Angeles Declaration Data Portal:
-
Comprehensive Migration Data: Reliable data on immigration, emigration, integration, development, forced displacement, public policy, and public opinion across the Americas.
-
Interactive Visualizations: Dynamic globe selections and filter indicators by category to better understand the nuances of regional migration.
-
Thematic Breakdowns: Themes such as labour migration, displacement, and vulnerable populations.
The launch of the LAD Data Portal is a significant step forward in the implementation of the Los Angeles Declaration, which is endorsed by 22 countries in the region. By providing migration data that is timely, reliable and easy to access, the Portal empowers governments, civil society, and other stakeholders to make informed decisions and develop evidence-based strategies to address the challenges and opportunities presented by migration in the Americas.
"The Data Portal can be a game-changer for regional cooperation on migration," said Diego Beltrand, IOM Regional Director a.i. for the Americas. "This centralized hub of mobility data and insights will be instrumental in supporting the endorsing countries' efforts to uphold the principles of the declaration and promote safe, orderly, and regular migration.”
The Data Portal is accessible in English and Spanish via losangelesdceclaration.com and directly on the IOM Migration Data Portal (migrationdataportal.org). Stakeholders are encouraged to explore the platform and contribute to the ongoing dialogue on migration and protection in the region.
