Art brought communities together at "The Little Prince Symphony" concert in Argentina
On Saturday 6 November, "Latin Vox Machine" presented their original composition "El Principito Sinfónico" at the Movistar Arena stadium. The event was supported by IOM Argentina and the Office of the Special Envoy of the IOM Director General for the Regional Response to the Venezuelan Situation, together with the United Nations in Argentina, other international agencies, and diplomatic representations.
Before an audience of 6,000 people, the play, inspired by Antoine Marie de Saint-Exupéry's story The Little Prince, brought to the stage a story based on human conscience and inner recognition. The orchestra, choir, and soloists took the audience on a musical journey through space.
Latin Vox Machine is a project made up mainly of Venezuelan musicians trained in the prestigious Sistema de Orquestas de Venezuela, created by Maestro José Antonio Abreu. Its ranks, which already include more than 120 musicians, have been joined by artists from Argentina, Ecuador, Bolivia, Uruguay, Colombia, Chile, El Salvador, Syria, among other nationalities. Several Argentinian singers were also summoned for this work, playing some of the characters in the cast.
Omar Zambrano, Executive Director and founder of the orchestra, said: "We are very excited to be able to bring to the stage this message that perhaps in other places cannot be achieved; it is achieved here (in Argentina), the message of an orchestra without political differences, nor of colorur, nor of social class. And that is the most powerful thing that Latin Vox Machine does. And he added: "The IOM has been a human entity that has accompanied us throughout this process".
During the most difficult stages of confinement due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the "El Principito Sinfónico" project functioned as a space for containment and reflection. The common artistic objective, which eventually resulted in a record and a show, provided the participants with fundamental support to get through this period.
"Today we have the proof of the very, very hard work that was done during the pandemic. We have the strong conviction that no matter how complicated the situation is, it is always worth giving space for art," said Latin Vox Machine's Production Coordinator, saxophonist, and bassoonist César Pérez.
IOM's institutional support to this initiative falls within the framework of the Regional Response Plan for Refugees and Migrants in Venezuela. Specifically, among the response actions of the Integration and Education sector of the Southern Cone Subregional Platform is the promotion of social cohesion activities to foster socio-cultural integration, highlight the value of diversity and harmonious coexistence, and generate empathy, helping to combat xenophobic attitudes and opinions.
Along these lines, the Head of Office of IOM Argentina, Gabriela Fernández, said: "This wonderful work is a perfect example of what the unity, resilience and effort of migrants and refugees can achieve. Art builds bridges between communities and offers a path for the socio-cultural integration of those arriving in a new country.
IOM's support was made possible by the US Department of State's Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM).
