WHO WE AREFollowing the UN Secretary-General's request to IOM and UNHCR to co-lead the regional inter-agency response, the Office of the Director General’s Special Envoy for the Regional Response to the Venezuela Situation (OSE) was established in 2019 to coordinate IOM's assistance for migrants and refugees from Venezuela.

What we doThe Office of IOM´s Special Envoy for Migrants and Refugees from Venezuela is responsible for the coordination and oversight of regional projects within the framework of Venezuela's Migrant and Refugee Response Plan (RMRP) in South America, North America, Central America and the Caribbean, working closely with implementing missions and Regional Offices.

Launch of the official website of the Los Angeles Declaration: A Regional Commitment on Migration and Protection
Guatemala City, Guatemala, 7 May 2024 – On the request of the adhering states, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) provided technical support for the establishment of the new Los Angeles Declaration website. The digital platform was presented, at the ministerial meeting in Guatemala City, marking a significant milestone in 22 countries’ ongoing commitment to migration iand protection in the Americas.
The Los Angeles Declaration is a landmark document that establishes fundamental principles for guiding migration and protection policies and actions. Through this declaration, the countries of the Americas recognize the necessity for collaboration to protect the dignity, life, and human rights of all migrants regardless of their migration status, and it represents twenty-two countries’ commitment to managing the challenges and opportunities presented by migration in the region in the 21st century.
The new website, which is available in two languages, English and Spanish, provides easy and direct access to the Los Angeles Declaration, as well as to additional resources, tools, and educational materials about migration in the region. Website highlights include:
- Access to up-to-date and reliable data and statistics on migration and protection in Latin America and the Caribbean.
- Educational resources and best replicable practises, with a wide range of materials addressing various aspects of migration and protection.
- News and events, to keep up to date on the latest news and events on migration and protection at the regional level.
- Interactive tools to help users better understand the opportunities and challenges associated with migration and protection.
The new website allows countries in the region, stakeholders, and users to participate and contribute to the conversation on migration and protection as part of the commitment to engagement. We invite governments, non-governmental organizations, academics, media, and the public to visit the website, explore all the features and content endorsed by the Los Angeles Declaration endorsing states, as well as join us in promoting safe, orderly, and regular migration under the Global Compact for Migration.
